Concrete slabs and pads for Burbank yards
- Shed and storage pads, from a 6 by 8 foot tool shed to a 10 by 12 workshop
- AC condenser, heat pump and generator pads beside the house
- Hot tub and spa pads, sized for the weight of a filled tub
- RV, boat and trailer pads along a side yard
- Garage floors, new or replacing a cracked and sunken slab
- Trash can and bin pads tucked behind a side gate
Each one is a reinforced slab on a compacted gravel base, but the details change with the load and the spot. Larger outdoor living slabs are on the concrete patios page, and slabs that carry walls (additions, ADUs) are concrete foundations.
Shed pads and the 120 square foot line
Burbank's 2025 handout on work exempt from a building permit covers one-story detached sheds and playhouses up to 120 square feet, and slabs and walks no more than 30 inches above the adjacent grade. A 10 by 12 shed on a ground-level pad fits both. The same handout adds that exempt work still has to meet the rest of the code, such as minimum setbacks, so the pad goes where the shed is allowed to stand. Bigger sheds and workshops need a permit. The Burbank concrete permits guide lists the full exemptions.

RV and trailer pads: Burbank's front yard rules
Burbank's zoning code is strict about the front yard. Parking there is allowed only on a driveway. Hardscape of any kind, concrete included, can cover no more than 45 percent of the required front setback, paving can't be added beside a driveway to make one continuous slab, and the driveway itself stays within the curb-opening limits (25 percent of the lot width, 15 feet per driveway). In practice an RV or trailer pad goes down a side yard or past the front setback line.
| Rule | Limit | Code |
|---|---|---|
| Parking in the front yard | Only on a driveway | BMC 10-1-603(G)(5)(d) |
| Hardscape in the front setback | No more than 45 percent | BMC 10-1-603(G)(5)(a) |
| Paving beside a driveway | Not allowed to form one continuous surface | BMC 10-1-603(G)(5)(c) |
| Driveway width at the curb | 25 percent of lot width, 15 ft per driveway | BMC 10-1-603(G)(5)(b) |
| Driveway in the front setback, garage at the rear | 20 ft wide max | BMC 10-1-603(G)(5)(b) |

An RV pad that needs a wider or second curb cut also involves Public Works, which caps a residential driveway approach at 17 feet and wants 20 feet of curb between two driveways on one lot; the concrete driveway page covers that side.
Garage floors
A cracked, oil-soaked or sunken garage floor is replaced the same way as a driveway: saw-cut, broken out, base regraded and compacted, then a new reinforced slab that slopes slightly toward the door. If the garage counts as required parking, Burbank's zoning code wants each space at least 9 feet 6 inches wide and 19 feet deep, worth checking before a floor replacement turns into a remodel. constructlytools prices a 400 to 600 square foot garage floor at $4,000 to $9,000.
AC, generator and hot tub pads
Equipment pads sit level and a little above the surrounding soil so water runs away from the unit, with room around it for service. Burbank's airport station averages 53.9 days a year at 90 degrees or hotter, so condensers here run hard; a level, solid pad keeps them that way. Hot tubs are the heavy case: a filled tub weighs far more than any shed, so the pad is sized for it, and the tub maker's base requirements belong in the quote.

Pad prices and how much concrete they take
| Slab | Size | Range |
|---|---|---|
| Shed pad | 80 to 200 sq ft | $900 to $3,000 (small-pour minimum $1,200 to $1,800) |
| Garage floor | 400 to 600 sq ft | $4,000 to $9,000 |
| Patio | 200 to 600 sq ft | $1,600 to $9,000 |
| Old slab removal | Per sq ft | $1.40 to $2.30 |
| Ready-mix concrete | Per cubic yard, delivered | $149 to $177 |

At 4 inches thick, a cubic yard of concrete covers about 81 square feet. The concrete cost calculator does the math for any size and thickness.
- 1Pick the spot and the size
Pads go a few inches past the footprint of what sits on them, outside required setbacks, with a path for water to drain away.
- 2Dig and compact
Sod and loose soil come out, gravel base goes in and is compacted level.
- 3Form and set steel
Forms set the height and edges; rebar or mesh goes on supports so it ends up inside the slab.
- 4Pour, finish, cure
Concrete is placed, finished smooth or broomed, and kept damp or sealed while it cures.
